Becoming a Training Provider
Overview
The goal of the FITS Foundation is to “Professionalise the ICT workforce”. This is achieved via a combination of education focused resources including processes, templates, checklists, knowledge bases, tools, courses and professional qualifications.
The professional qualifications are gained via classroom based training courses and online examinations. These are provided by our training partners who deliver regular courses across the UK.
All of these resources deliver high quality information that enables ICT professionals to make a real difference to the quality of ICT delivery within their school or establishment. Ultimately this is intended to provide a better experience for learners and staff coupled with lower costs and a more reliable service.
Requirements
Each training partner will be required to provide the FITS training to a consistent and high standard. This ensures that every delegate enjoys the best training experience and gains the skills to make a difference to their school.
Training providers can be either a commercial training organisation, a Local Authority or other educational body such as a Trust.
Each provider will need to:
- Have a minimum of 2 trainers available to provide the training.
- The trainers will need to have a background in technical support as well as the ability to present to groups of technical staff.
- Each trainer will need to attend a FITS “Train the Trainer” course for each of the courses that they wish to offer.
- Undergo an audit of their training facility to ensure that it meets with our standards for an accredited training centre.
- Deliver a pilot training course which the Foundation will audit to ensure that this is delivered to an appropriate standard. There is a fixed fee of £500 for this.
- Submit course feedback forms for each course to the Foundation.
Process Summary
- Contact the Foundation to discuss becoming a training provider.
- Sign the training provider contract.
- Book and attend a “Train the trainer” course for each course that they intend to deliver.
- Deliver the pilot course
- Receive certification to provide a FITS training course and examination.
Costs
There is a fixed fee of £500 to cover the audit and the “Train the trainer” course.
Our train the trainer courses help familiarise trainers with the FITS materials and also with the exercises. These are very important as the reason behind FITS is to ensure the technicians and network managers have the skills to improve the delivery of ICT services within their establishment. In addition, these courses are also aligned with the FITS professional qualifications which provide credits towards NVQ level 4 & 5. These qualifications are approved via the national QCF register.
In order to be qualified to deliver these courses, there are 2 fundemental skills that are required:
- A strong background or understanding of technical support to ensure that the trainer understands the pressures and challenges facing ICT staff in an educational environment.
- Previous experience of delivering training or as a minimum the ablility to deliver presentations to a group of technicians and managers.
In order to deliver FITS training courses, your organisation needs to become a FITS accreditated Training Provider. The first stage of this process is to contact the Foundation to arrange for an initial exploratory meeting. At that meeting we take the opportunity to update potential training partners about FITS and identify the partners past training and technical support experience.
